Cafesano Fills Unique Niche in the Quick-Casual Dining Segment
Signal first started working with Paul Swinley, founder of Cafesano, in the mid-80s to help build his first company, which was called InterOffice. A pioneer of staffed and equipped office space, InterOffice grew to 40 cities before being acquired. While the average person would have pursued early retirement, Paul soon got bored and came to us with an idea for a new business. His concept was to combine the quick-casual dining model, popularized by Panera, with a menu based on the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
Signal created the brand Cafesano, which means healthy café in Italian, to embody each of the attributes of the founder’s vision. Cafesano opened in 2005 with one location in Reston, VA. Ever the perfectionist, Paul spent the next five years “getting it right.” The work presented here showcases Signal’s latest branding and marketing work for Cafesano, featuring an updated branding platform to support an expanded range of menu offerings and the addition of a new catering division.
Celebrated by the Washingtonian as among the best neighborhood dining choices in Reston and Herndon and the recipient of the Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, Cafesano has won thousands of loyal fans by remaining true to its commitment to provide healthy, fresh Mediterranean cuisine.
